Walking Holidays in Morocco

Chefchaouen, Morocco

Morocco Walking holidays & adventures

Morocco is a land of desert, coast and mountains with a firm footing in Africa but almost grazing Europe across the Straits of Gibraltar. Despite its proximity to Europe, Morocco has a wonderfully different culture where friendly haggling in traditional, sprawling souks is the order of the day. Step back in time among the narrow, never-ending maze of streets in Fes where countless shops each specialise in a particular item – everything from colourful tajine pots and traditionally-made leather goods to top quality hand-made rugs and spices. The city of Chefchaouen also has its share of shops but is most noted for its eye-catching blue and white colour palette – using a similar shade of blue to that used for the boats that bob in the harbour of the laid-back coastal town of Essaouira.

Away from the cities, the Atlas Mountains are a highlight of your walking holiday in Morocco, with a lattice of paths and trails beckoning you in to the sands. Walk a while and you may come across a Berber tribesman offering to share a glass or two of sweet mint tea with you. A different kind of adventure awaits in the Sahara Desert; rolling sand dunes that slip beneath the feet. Best to leave it to the experts and ride on camel back to camp out for a night under a blanket of stars.
